Tom Odell, a world-renowned indie pop artist, was born on November 24, 1990, in West Sussex, England. His father is a pilot, and his mother is a kindergarten teacher. Because of his father’s job, he spent a portion of his childhood in New Zealand. He attended Seaford College for his education. Odell began writing songs at the age of 13 after learning to play the piano at the age of seven.
Tom Odell, who has signed songs that have been heard by millions of people, receives rave reviews from his fans for his concerts and stage performances. Let’s take a closer look at the indie pop music’s beloved name’s musical life and career.
Tom Odell’s Musical Career and Journey

The artist had a strong desire to continue his university education in the field of music since his childhood. As a result, he enrolled at the Brighton Institute of Modern Music. He formed the band Tom and The Tides while in college. He recorded his first song, “Spider,” with this group for the Brighton Institute of Modern Music’s student album. This group, however, did not last long. He then desired to pursue his musical career on his own.
Tom Odell began his musical career while still in college with the band Tom and The Tides. Following that, he desired to pursue her career on her own terms.
He began his career in Liverpool, but was not very successful. Then he went to London and performed his songs in empty concert halls with few people in attendance. However, in a bar where he only performs for 20 people per night, among those twenty are British singer Lily Allen and her friend, the founder of Columbia Records’ sub-contract In The Name Of. Allen is intrigued by this young man and wishes to meet him. Allen and Odell then reach an agreement for the young man’s debut album. Allen compares the British singer’s energy on stage to that of David Bowie. Soon after, he signed with Columbia Records.
His First EP; “Song From Another Love”

The EP ‘Songs from Another Love’ immediately topped the charts and was adored by all. We can still say that “Another Love” is the most popular song on this EP. In fact, he received the “Critics’ Choice” award at the BRIT AWARDS, one of the most prestigious awards in the music world, in 2013 as a result of this song. Odell appeared “agitated and uncomfortable” at the awards ceremony, according to the Guardian. Odell describes his discomfort in the following way:
I find the show side of music difficult. I’ve just started and it’s hard for me for now. I know that the most meaningful things I do are producing and performing. Other than that, it’s like killing my soul. I don’t find it healthy to be in front of the cameras.
Tom Odell
Odell dislikes being in the spotlight. At his concerts, he usually sits at the piano and rarely gets up. The head of the piano is where he feels most at ease and free. He is aware of the significance of the award he received, but he does not believe it has had a significant impact on his life. In an interview, he says, “You have to be careful.” “There are as many ups as there are downs in this life, one must not get too caught up in it, one must be careful,” he adds. I am not competing with other artists, award or no award. I am only concerned with my own output; I compete with myself. I don’t make music for profit; I find it very cheap…”
Debut Album Long Way Down

Long Way Down, his first full-length album, was released on June 23, 2013. This album, like Another Love, quickly reached number one on the charts. Odell’s use of piano tunes in pop songs was described as “original” by The Guardian. He was even invited to perform with the Rolling Stones in Hyde Park, but had to cancel due to illness.
When listeners learned that the lyrics also belonged to Odell, they were surprised that such a young person could have such deep thoughts about love. How could someone in their early twenties be so knowledgeable about love? Odell responds when asked this question:
In fact, I know nothing about love. I just have a lot of thoughts about love. I take in my surroundings. I make an effort to comprehend everyone’s emotions.

Tom Odell Tours and Concerts

He enjoys giving concerts and touring. However, being in a very active and turbulent period makes him uneasy. Tom Odell compares tours to a circus. In one of his interviews, he stated that he enjoys performing in front of people and creating music for them, but that he needs to strike a balance. He emphasizes that if he cannot achieve this balance, he will be unable to produce. In other words, he believes that focusing on giving too many concerts saps her inspiration.
He threw himself in Manhattan after returning from his lengthy tour in support of his debut album. He rented an apartment there, rested, and began work on his second album, Wrong Crowd. During the production process, he realized that he writes and composes better when he is with people he doesn’t know in unfamiliar places! He ends up in America whenever he wants to escape the gloomy atmosphere of London. Because America means freedom to him!
Years 2014-2015

Alex released the song on February 7, 2014. At the 2014 Ivor Novello Awards, he was named ‘Songwriter of the Year.’ In addition, Odell’s song “Can’t Pretend” was used in the TV show The 100. He used his cover of The Beatles’ “Real Love” from the end of 2014 in the 2014 John Lewis Christmas commercial. The commercial, about a penguin who falls in love, was released on the same day as the single. Within hours, it was trending on Shazam. The song rose from 21st to 7th in the UK top 40 in just three days.
Years 2016-2017: Second Album
Wrong Crowd, his second studio album, was released on April 4, 2016, along with the single of the same name. The album’s second single, “Magnetised,” was then released. On June 10, 2016, the full album was released. Odell collaborated on this album with Jim Abbiss, who has previously worked with Adele and Arctic Monkeys. During the album’s production, he also claims to have been influenced by US filmmakers, particularly Terrence Malik. He also writes the scripts for the album’s song clips.
2017 and Present
In fact, Tom Odell took a long break after 2017. However, in 2021, he reunited with his fans by releasing the “Monster” album.
Tom Odell, whose previous performances in our country were sold out weeks ago, is returning to Turkey as part of his European tour. The artist, who described his concerts in our country as “unforgettable,” said he was blown away by the energy he received from our audience. This summer, Tom Odell fans in Istanbul and Ankara will gather to enjoy a piano recital, deep dreams with love songs, and a musical feast.
